Bast

Bast was a perfume I designed for my Packaging Design class at MIAD. We had to design a brand/theme, poster, logo, and pick a bottle that would work with our branding (along with modifying the bottle). We also had to pick a scent to go with our perfume.

I decided to base my perfume off of the ancient Egyptian goddess Bast. While her name translation is unknown, one suggestion is “She of the ointment jar” and she has connections to perfume and ointments. In fact, the first symbol in her hieroglyph is an ointment jar. Her son was the god of perfume as well. I found a perfume bottle that was shaped like a cat and modified it to have golden eyeliner along with Bast’s name in hieroglyphs on the collar. For the perfumes scent I had it be scents that were common at the time, so it included notes of frankincense and sandalwood. For the packaging, I found paper that reminded me of lapis lazuli, which can be found in Egypt, and used that for the poster as well.
